-The Data Collectors will assist the PGSSC with the baseline study and will be responsible or involved in the following activities: -Participate in a half-day training of data collection procedures in late February 2019. -Directly observe surgeries in 5 hospitals in or near Vientiane for a period of 1 to 2 weeks in late February/early March 2019. -Overnight stays in hotels near hospitals may be required. -Record observations of each surgery using structured questionnaires that must be completed fully. -Work with each hospital’s staff to ensure at least 3-4 surgeries are observed daily. -Obtain consent from surgical team members and patients as needed. -Report daily (via phone or in person) to Harvard University staff on progress of study.
* Data Collector Qualifications:
-Data collectors should be current medical students that have an interest in both surgical care and public health research. Data collections must be fluent in both English and Laoand these other minimum qualifications should be met:
-Available for training and data collection in February 2019 -Previous experience in data collection -Strong work ethic -Interest in surgery and/or public health -Medical or nursing students preferred;
